Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visited Stratton Community Hospital in July to unveil a plaque that commemorates the recent £3.3 million extension and refurbishment of the hospital. The couple toured the facilities and met staff, supporters and in-patients before officially unveiling the plaque.
Prince Charles spoke of his admiration for the hospital staff and volunteers, particularly the local League of Friends. He said: “Places like this depend on the devotion and dedication, and indeed the love, shown by these remarkable people.”
Stratton Community Hospital reopened last November following extensive refurbishment and rebuilding works. Patients now have access to improved out-patient, x-ray, and minor injuries unit (MIU) facilities, as well as an in-patient ward.
The new building offers more spacious accommodation, with purpose-built side rooms to support the privacy and dignity of patients and their families.
Great care and attention to detail was taken to support patients with dementia and cognitive impairments, including naming the new wards after local beaches and using themed colour schemes throughout the hospital.
