St Meriadoc C of E V.A. Junior School in Camborne saw pupils, staff and parents take part in the free Run4Fun event on 6th November.
The free family event was sponsored by Community 1st Cornwall, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly’s local LIFT company, and organised by national sports development charity StreetGames, with local support from LEAPActive, who work throughout Cornwall encouraging people to become more physically active in there daily lives, to encourage participation in sport, and raise awareness of healthy living as the Country gears up to host the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The event was a massive success with 280 pupils and 50 parents and staff taking part and even the autumnal weather managed to stay dry for the 800 meter run around the playing fields and everybody finished the run in high spirits.
After a warm-up with special guest former Commonwealth running champion Diane Modahl, the runners were all enthusiastic and ready for the race.
As the Run4Fun is all about participation rather than winning everyone who took part and finished the run received a medal, along with a special certificate of participation.
Rodger Allin, General Manager of Community 1st Cornwall, commented: “Community 1st Cornwall are pleased that our sponsorship could help provide the free Run4Fun event encouraging people to have a healthy family fun afternoon”
Community 1st Cornwall see the Run4Fun event as the launch for a number of ‘healthy living’ activities it is seeking to sponsor over the next few years in partnership with the Cornwall LEAPActive team bringing communities together to have fun and get fit.
