Community 1st Cornwall and StreetGames bring fun run to Cornwall

Community 1st Cornwall and national sports development charity StreetGames are helping families warm up after a cold bonfire night by hosting a special free entry family fun run on Thursday 6th November at St Meriadoc C of E V.A. Junior School in Camborne.

The fun run has been organised by Community 1st and StreetGames with local support from LEAPActive, who work throughout Cornwall encouraging people to become more physically active in there daily lives, to encourage participation in sport, and raise awareness of healthy living as the Country gears up to host the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Starting at 1.30pm, and being led by former Commonwealth champion Diane Modahl, the special RUN 4 FUN event is open to all ages and abilities and will see participants run, jog or walk an 800m course around school. All those taking part will receive a special medal and certificate of achievement.

John Dwan, managing director of Sport4Life, the organisation delivering the event on behalf of StreetGames and Community 1st Cornwall said: “The RUN 4 FUN event has been kept completely free to enter and open to all ages in order to really encourage families and groups of friends to take part and have fun together. We’ve already held a number of these events elsewhere around the country and they’ve been really popular. It seems there is a real demand out there for community events that get everyone involved. I’ve no doubt the turnout in Cornwall will be equally impressive.”

Community 1st Cornwall, the company delivering LIFT in Cornwall (the Central Government initiative to develop a new generation of community based primary health and social care premises), believes that the partnership with StreetGames on this initiative is a valuable one.

Rodger Allin, General Manager of Community 1stCornwall, who are working in partnership with NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly to deliver the most significant investment in primary health care and community facilities in recent years said  “As an organisation we are dedicated to delivering modern health and community facilities across Cornwall, facilities which really meet the needs of the communities in which they are located. Like us, StreetGames, which helps develop youth sport in disadvantaged areas throughout the UK, also believes that supporting communities can help change lives. By working together with the Cornwall LEAPActive team on the RUN 4 FUN activities we hope to deliver with them and others a series of events over the next year that will convey this attitude and bring communities together to have fun and get fit.”
